Volunteering with an MS charity of your choice is not only personally rewarding, but it’s also a great way to let others know about MS. When people hear you are volunteering at a charity, they generally want to know more about it and sometimes you can recruit additional helpers this way. It’s quick and easy to sign up for a volunteer position with an MS organization. The many organizations created specifically for people with Multiple Sclerosis are non-profit, so they rely heavily on donations from caring individuals.
Most people have access to the Internet, whether it’s through a personal computer, an Internet café, or the local library. Visit an MS website and locate the page for volunteers. A number of these sites have a calendar system set up to keep everyone informed of daily activities and events going on throughout the month, as well as for multiple months at a time. Fill out an application and submit it with your information and any questions you might have.
You can also stop by local MS chapter, if you are looking for something closer to home. Recruit others to help as well. Volunteer duties can include passing out pamphlets, answering phones, organizing and setting up for an event, passing out t-shirts or supplies, or simply greeting people as they arrive for the fundraiser.
MS Charity Events
Anything goes when it comes to raising money for research and promoting awareness of MS. There’s no fundraiser too small. For instance, MS charity Christmas cards can be purchased from online sources and sometimes from local MS chapters. These items allow people to donate a small amount of money and, in turn, they receive something that can be passed on to others.
An MS charity bike ride event takes place in cities all over the nation. This event is known as Bike MS and cyclists from all over participate to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis research. What began as a single event in Minnesota in 1980 has now grown into a nationwide phenomena where millions of dollars are raised yearly.
For people who don’t wish to join the Bike MS event, there is also the Walk MS fundraising event. This too takes place in multiple cities in states across the US. Communities are always free to start their own personal event. Local events are often so successful that they become a yearly occurrence and the entire community enjoys getting involved for a great cause. Raising money for an MS charity is something anyone can do.
