The information supplied by the main National MS Society is valuable to not only people who have MS, but also to anyone who is a caregiver, family member, friend, or acquaintance of an individual with Multiple Sclerosis. The MS Society provides services and offers programs designed specifically around MS. This organization can assist people in obtaining equipment, furnishings, or other supplies needed to help function on a daily basis. MS generally causes limited mobility, which sometimes means a loss of independence. Any branch of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is able to find out about items that can be used on loan that would greatly help a person maintain a sense of independence.

Fundraisers, such as an MS Society walk or bike ride are a key component in collecting funds for research. Finding a cure for MS involves a lot of research and it doesn’t come cheap. A constant flow of money helps this nonprofit organization succeed in making life more enjoyable for people with MS. Due to its nonprofit nature, the National MS Society relies heavily on volunteers who supply their skills, time, and hard work. Without these dedicated individuals, a lot of what goes in within the organization wouldn’t be able to happen.

There is always plenty of information about Multiple Sclerosis that can be gotten through the organization itself. Books and videos used to educate people on various stages of MS can be loaned through the Multiple Sclerosis Society. A toll-free number is always open for people who need encouragement, have unanswered questions, or who just need someone to talk to. Nearly any aspect of MS is able to be handled by this organization.

Applying for an MS Society Scholarship

Scholarship programs through any MS Society on the national level can help students get started on the education they need for a brighter future. The student needs to have been diagnosed with MS or have a family member with MS in order to qualify. There’s no application fee, but additional qualifications must be met in order to be considered for a scholarship through the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Applicants need to be a high school senior or have completed a GED program. Anyone applying for the scholarship needs to be a US citizen and must be attending college for the very first time. The student also needs to take at least 6 credit hours each semester to qualify for a National MS Society Scholarship. Once an application is filled out and sent in online, it will be reviewed and a notification letter will be sent out.
