Incontinence can occur when someone cannot hold either their bladder or their bowels. MS incontinence can occur when someone suffers from the chronic neurological disease. When someone has multiple sclerosis incontinence, it is usually because of the damage that has been done to their nervous system through the process of demyelination. Damage to certain nerves can disrupt the signals sent to the bladder or the bowels, constricting or relaxing the muscles in these areas at the wrong times. These problems can occur at any time during the disease, but they may be more prominent during flare ups or relapse. This can be a frustrating problem that makes it difficult to continue with daily activities and a normal lifestyle.
